Hi all, we are looking at the M1G and wanted to know how easy it would be to program. I have no experience with alarms, but have wired ethernet and am fairly computer savy when i get my mind to it.

Reason we are looking at this is we would like to set up several partitions in our house with a rental, and two separate garages that we would like to monitor. We would also require multiple keypads (one in each partition).

Does the elk have keypads that call out (voice) the alarm codes on the keypads?

I like the upgradability of the M1G.

Thanks in advance.

The problem with you installing your own alarm system with or without experience is that you get no technical support from the manufacturers (including third-party devices).  You're basically on your own.  Be aware that the M1G is a very comprehensive system, lots of studying involved.

Thanks. We will start with basic alarm function. Once we get that straight, then we can look at some other functions. I don't think we are going to go crazy with it.

The M1 is easier than most, and the documentation is far better than some manufacturer's (IE: DSC IMHO) and if general alarm industry terms and familiarity is known, it's actually very straightforward.

Interfacing 3rd party hardware isn't that difficult, again if the functionality is known regarding what sort of interface (TCP/IP or via RS-232 or another) but that is generally speaking, when higher levels of integration is being done, which generally exceeds most average DIY and some alarm installer's knowledge and understanding.

Elk is one of the most "friendly" as far as DIY or support on their products go.

I'd like to be called sir at least once without being followed with "you're making a scene"
