What does the official UL standard say about daily or hourly pings of a home owners landline?  From my understanding, a UL central station/ alarm system is supposed to test for an active line every 24 hours (or something like that).  Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

The applicable UL Standard for Digital Alarm Communicators is 1635.

You are correct; the transmitter must contact the receiver at least once every 24 hours (regular tests, openings, closings, etc).

There are exceptions for dual phone lines if they are fault monitored and the control can switch between the two lines and for residential fire/burglar applications.

I think there are a couple more exceptions but I couldn't tell you what they are without reviewing the Standard.

Keep in mind that the monitoring center being UL certified does not mean that your alarm is.  You must meet all UL requirements on your end as well.

Any alarm is only as good as its planning and install.  Spend the time and money to do it right the first time or you will spend twice the money to pay someone else to do it right the second time!

And be inspected and certificated by an UL underwriter (on your dime, both for the trip and the inspection)  Smiley
