Gem 1632 panel. I installed the system myself a few years ago. It was programmed by a friend who owned an alarm company at the time. Is the quickloader sofware available for the homeowner or does Napco require you to be a licensed installer to download it and get a password? I would like to have the software to make changes to my system in the future. Thanks.

You have to be a dealer to download Quickloader software, but not to use it, The homeowner can still buy it from ebay.

If I buy it from ebay is it ready to go or do I need to get a password from Napco? What type of interface cable do I use from the computer into the RJ 45 connection in the panel?

The software is ready to go, but you will need a PCI-MINI, Napco's USB to serial port adapter, unless your computer has a serial port.

Okay if the computer doesn't have the serial port the mini adapter changes it to usb. Do I just use a usb to cat 5 converter from there or is there a special cable/adapter to go from the usb to the panel's rj connection?

You need Napco's USB to serial port adapter, from the adapter you need the PCI-MINI, from that you use the 6 wire download cord into the panel.

I bought the Quickloader and the interface cable. I have yet to install it in the computer.
1. Can I use the software on more than one computer? I would like to download it into my desktop so that I can practice using it before hooking it up to the panel.
2. If I set up the software and connect it to the 1632 panel will it show the current program that is active? I would like to see everything from the current program on the screen before I dump a new program into the panel and wipe the previous program out.

You can use the software on as many computers as you want, just upload the program from the panel to any computer.

Just to make sure I understood you, I can install the software and then upload the program that is already installed in the Napco 1632 into the software computer?

Yes, the panel already has a defaulted program in it, you upload the program make the changes then download it back into the panel, then upload from the panel to the rest of your computers.

I already have a program in the panel that was set up by a friend of mine who is a Napco installer. Will this program upload to the software or just the default program that the panel comes with? My system works great as is,  I just want to make a few small changes like changing the pgm output to trip on only one zone, and add a new zone to the interior zones (additional pir's).

Whatever is in the panels program will be available to upload.
