I have an Ademco Vista 20-P that has not been monitored for a number of years. I have been getting a "bF" message on my keypad and assumed it was a battery failure. After replacing all the sensor batteries and the main battery in the Vista 20-P I'm still getting the message. Now that I've found this website I know it's because I'm not receiving monitoring services so the 7845GSM has faulted. I have a flashing yellow light (through I have no reference to know if it is fast or slow, I'd guess fast).

So. I realize I can't get AlarmNet monitoring without a service so I need to know what to do about this fault. Do I simply remove the 7845GSM? I could easily follow the wires back into the Vista 20-P and simply take the 7845GSM out of the equation. However, I'm not programmer, this was a professionally installed system, and I have no idea if simply removing the component would fix the problem or complicate things further.

I also have the cheap fixed-display keypad so I have no way of programming things without making some type of equipment investment. How difficult is it for the home-novice to modify this type of system?

I have 3 door sensors, 3 motion sensors, fire sensor, interior & exterior sirens, fixed-display, Vista 20-P control box with accompanying 7845GSM communicator.

Given the above information, what improvements would you recommend to keep the system active and set it up for self-monitoring.

Are there locals (I'm in the Atlanta area) that can help reconfigure the system for a fee so I don't have to go sign up with a monitoring company that will charge me until the end of time?

Thanks, I'm a newbie at this.

The system is looking for the active GSM. You would have to tell the system the GSM has been removed.
I would suggest monitoring and if your GSM is recent enough, Total Connect as well.
