Why is my keypad dead??
Like most modern alarm systems, many DSC panels can be divided into two or more separate systems, called "partitions." Most private residences never need this feature, but there are situations where it is appropriate and very useful. If partitions are used, then a user may need to access one partition, another partition or both/all partitions ("global"). Here's where the problem occurs: the installer (particularly a first time do-it-yourselfer) who is NOT using partitions may accidentally assign the keypad as global (able to access all partitions). Since the keypad can now access both/all partitions, it will not respond AT ALL until you tell it which partition to access. So assuming you are not using two or more partitions, you simply need to access partition one (which is your only partition.... you can't have zero partitions). PRESS AND HOLD THE "1" KEY FOR TWO SECONDS (until it beeps). That's it.... it's alive.
IT'S ALIVE!!!!! What's that?? You say it's
still dead as a doornail? Chances are that instead of being assigned as global, it was assigned to a partition, but to a partition other than "1." No problem; just press and hold the "#" key for two seconds (until it beeps), THEN press and hold "1" for two seconds. Doctor, we've got a pulse!!
Now that the keypad is alive, you must permanently correct the problem, so read on.
To permanently assign the keypad to partition one, do the following:
*8 then
Installer's Code000 to enter keypad programming
0 to program partition and slot assignment
1 for partition 1
1 for slot 1 (or "2" for a second keypad, "3" for a third, etc. or "8" for an LCD5500, PK5500, or RFK5500 keypad)
## to exit programming
