Hi, I have an 8 year old pc1555.  A month ago the alarm company called and said the alarm had gone off.  I arrived home and there was no alarm but zone 2 was lite.  I worked with the alarm company via the phone with no luck.  I have pulled the plug & battery (and reentered the time) with no luck.  If I bypass the zone, then the Ready, System and Zone 2 lights are all lite.  When I un-bypass, then only the Zone 2 light is lite.

Any ideas?  Should I just call the alarm company and pay for the service visit?  Could the issue be a misaligned window sensor (house shifting over time)?

The door/window bell no longer works either (since battery/AC pull) but that might just be programming.

Any assistance appreciated!
Karl

Hi Karl, welcome to the forum.

Seems that there is a problem with the sensor or wiring on zone 2 (more likely the sensor). What kind of sensor is on zone 2? If it is a magnetic contact, is it recessed or surface mounted? What keypad do you have?

Hi Ken, We have the LED based keypads.  I think we have magnetic contacts and they look like they are surface mounted with a thin layer of silicon or rubber on top.  Zone 2 pretty much covers all the windows in the house (12 maybe?).  Any easy way to check the sensors?

Karl,

Wow..... 12 contacts on one zone..... not an ideal situation for troubleshooting! And I take back what I said earlier; with that many contacts on one zone, there are lots of splices that could be suspect. But let's start with the easy possibilities: first, examine all of the contacts and magnets to make sure that all are securely in place (not loose or missing). Next, although it's more likely for contacts to stick closed than open, try going to each contact and giving it a sharp tap with the handle of a screwdriver. Have someone watch the keypad while you are doing this to see if the zone 2 light even flickers off momentarily. Post back with the results of those two tasks, and we'll go from there.
