Can anyone help me with this problem ?
I have downloaded and installed the DLS 2002 Software; Engine, NA Drivers, Service Pack, Web Auto update and ran the update.
I installed the DSC PC-Link Direct Connection.  I have check & re-checked to be sure everything is properly installed.
In DLS 2002 I setup a folder and the panel.  I set the modem to:
General - DSC PC-Link Direct Connection
Outgoing - DSC PC-Link Direct Connection
        Incoming - Generic 56k
Problem: when I try to open the panel:  just before it opens (it shifts
                                                 to the "open panel" screen)
I get the messages:
DLS Program Database has encountered a problem and needs to close

dls3_32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c90100b" referenced memory at "0x015f4642". The memory could not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate program
.....................................
I've tried removing the Generic 56k modem leaving the incoming field blank;   Tried all the different modems.   I can not get it to work.
My computer is a AMD64 Dual Core running XP Pro  3gb memory  200gb free disc space.
I've spent hours and hours searching forums, support & the web to no avail.  I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the problem
Thanks

Is your operating system 32 bit or 64 bit? You will have problems with 64 bit operating systems.

What are you using for a serial to USB adapter to connect your computer to the PC-link? The highly recommended one is a Keyspan USA19-HS which has no reported problems connecting. The other serial to USB adapters have worked with somewhat limited success.

Post back and we will try to assist

Appreciate your help.
My system is 32 bit
I'm using the DSC PC-Link Local Download Kit
Quote   "This is a specialized serial cable for use with programming software available for DSC alarm systems. Features a 9 pin connection on one end and a specialized 4 pin connector on the other that plugs into the DSC board."
Thanks

Does your computer have a DB9 serial port to attach the PC-link cable?

What operating system are you running?

It sure sounds to me like you need to un-install the siftware and reboot the computer.

Then re-install the software a second time. Sounds like a corrupt file.

You will also have to setup the port (device manager) and communications options in the computer that you are attached to...this is a computer setup item to be able to connect to DLS2002.

Keep working on it....we will be there to assist.

I'm using a PCI Multi 1/0 Controller Card - NetMos Dual Port PCI Serial with 16C550 UART Hi-Speed
Running XP Pro on AMD64  Athlon  x2  Dual Core
I have uninstalled and re-installed more than once to no avail
The controller Card is set-up on the computer.  In Device Manager it shows ... working and no problems
Appreciate your help.

Hi:
It has been awhile.  The last post I received was Feb 3.  Appreciate the help and suggestions to date.  I'm wondering if anyone has any further suggestions on how I might get the DLS 2002 software to work on my computer.  It would sure make life easier if I could get it to work.
Thanks again.

I can't offer much help with the computer setup for ports, etc.

I would use the Keyspan adapter to a USB port and see if that helps the configuration problems.

Were you able to actually run the "web update" routine and get the latest drivers downloaded and installed?

Yes I was able to run the "web update" and installed all the updates.
As far as I can tell the computer and ports are set-up right.  All the devices are working with no problems.
I'm using a serial port to a serial connection so that should be okay.
Hmmm ...  guess I'll have to go through everything and see if I can tweak something to get it to work.
Thanks a lot for your help and patience, george6488.

Why do you have "Incoming" modem set for "Generic 56K," rather than than "Digital Security Controls MD12 v1.1," if you are connecting through the PC-Link?

Are you setting the port number in general settings "properties" to match the port number on the computer?

It is the application error on the computer that leads me to suspect a corrupt file or computer setup problem.

I have run DLS2002 from Win XP Pros w/sp2 and from Vista with no errors.

an update:
It may be it is not a connection problem but rather DLS won't open the Folder/Account.  I think one should be able to open the Folder/Account without communicating with the panel.  The error message is before the panel opens.
I went back and did a new install of XP Pro (actually a restored image)
Then I downloaded new copies of DLS2002  Engine, NA Drivers, Service Pack and Web Update Add-on and installed them in the same order.  Rebooted the computer.  Opened DLS, input the Security Stamp(same as on old computer), ran Web Update and installed all updates.  Got message to effect: All downloaded and properly installed. OK and DLS opened in Account Explorer.  Set-up a new Account and imported one from the old computer.  Neither Account will open. I highlighted the account and double clicked.  DLS goes to the next screen... The file ... but gets the error message before it opens the file.
DLS Program Database has encountered a problem and needs to close

dls3_32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c90100b" referenced memory at "0x015f4642". The memory could not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate program

The program worked fine on my old computer: all the same programs and the same processor  BUT the new computer is Dual Core.  Could that be the problem ?  Is anyone running DLS on a AMD Athlon64 dual core ?
Anyway really appreciate your assistance.

I thought one had to use a modem that is actually on the computer.  I have a Motorola which isn't listed so I chose Generic.  Following your suggestion I tried  Digital Security Controls MD12 v1.1  but it still doesn't work.  Appreciate the help though.
You may want to read my reply to george6488 that I posted at 12:52 today.  Thanks again.

I could send a picture of the DLS screen when the error comes up but I can't figure out how to send a jpg.

I'm running it on an AMD Phenom Quad-Core and Vista with no issues.
