The alarm system continuously checks its condition and reports changes in its status to the user through the control station (keypad). In addition to reporting normal operating conditions such as Ready, Armed, Alarm, Open Zones, etc, the system also reports conditions that may reduce its effectiveness. These Trouble conditions are conveyed to the user by illuminating a light, or combination of lights, on the keypad and/or by the keypad buzzer. While keypad beeping can result from a number of conditions, a failed or failing battery is by far the most common cause.
Since Trouble displays vary depending upon Moose models, it is important that you refer to both the User Guide and Installation Manual for your system. If you do not have these manuals, they are available as free downloads to forum members (use the link at the bottom of this article to request downloading information), identify your model (see "How do I find out which make/model home security alarm system I have ?" in the forums Frequently Asked Questions section for help with identifying the system) and download the applicable documentation.
The Moose Z700, Z800, Z900 and Z950 will annunciate Trouble conditions by illuminating the Trouble Light and beeping the keypad buzzer. Pressing and holding the 2 key for three seconds will cause one or more of the Zone Lights to illuminate providing additional information regarding the condition. A Zone 2 Light indicates a low battery or blown fuse (a complete list of Trouble Indications can be found in the Installation manual).
The Z1100, Z1100 Sys II and the Z1100e annunciate a low battery or blown fuse by blinking the Power Light and beeping the keypad buzzer. These systems perform a battery test automatically every 24 hours so the beeping may reoccur after each test.
Other models perform battery tests at different intervals and LCD keypads will display Trouble conditions differently so it is important to consult the User Guide for you particular system.
If your system indicates a battery or fuse problem, remove power from the system by unplugging the low voltage transformer and removing one of the leads from the battery and check the fuses.
Replacement batteries can be found at a Batteries Plus, Radio Shack, etc. Battery specifications are listed in the Installation Manual.
If your Trouble indication is something other than a low battery/blown fuse or if the replacement battery does not correct the beeping, post a New Topic on the Moose Tech Support Forum describing the problem and the steps that you have taken to resolve it.
